Gilbert Bowen
Jefferson High School
Class of 1965

Gilbert Bowen lettered in two sports, football and basketball, at Jefferson High School.  He received the following awards while playing for Jefferson Blue Devils.

Football - Most Valuable Player, All Conference

Basketball - 4 year starter, Most Valuable Player, All-State

Bowen also played college basketball briefly at the University of the District of Columbia in Washington D.C.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Harold Jones
York High School
Class of 1958

Harold Jones graduated from York in 1958 and lettered in football.  He played in the Shrine Bowl Game in 1958 and accepted a Football Scholarship to play at the University of South Carolina.

 

 

George Hart
York High School

            For decades George Hart was the announcer for York High Football games.  He quickly earned the reputation of a very professional unbiased announcer who was an expert on the game.  To the many thousands of fans who have enjoyed and supported York football over the years, George will always be remembered as the “Voice of the Green Dragons”!

 

 

Eddie Morton
York High School
Class of 1962

Eddie Morton lettered in football and track at York.  He received the following while in high school.

Football - Co-Captain, All Conference Running Back

Track - Three year letterman

He was chosen to the 1961 National High School American Football team.  In 1961 he also played in 25th silver anniversary game of the Shrine Bowl.  He was awarded a scholarship to the University of South Carolina.

 

 

Marx Davis
York Comprehensive High School
Class of 1979

Marx Davis lettered in football, basketball and track at York.

Football - Starting Quarterback in 1979, Voted Co-Captain, Helped guide the team to an impressive 9-3 record

Basketball-Point Guard on the Varsity Basketball team

Track - Ran 100 and 200 yard dash and 400 yard relay

Marx attended the University of South Carolina

 

 

Johnnie “Pete” Barnette
York Comprehensive High School
Class of 1977 School

Pete Barnette lettered in three sports while attending YCHS.

Baseball - 1974 MVP of baseball team, 1975 All Area MVP, 1977 All Area

Wrestling - 1975 All Conference, 1977 All Area, All State, State Champion Conference 2 AAA title, Piedmont Upper State Championship

Football -  All Conference Linebacker

He played baseball at Spartanburg Methodist College and was drafted by the Kansas City Royals.

 

 

Dot Hafner Martin
Sharon High School
Class of 1955

Dot Martin lettered in Basketball at Sharon High School.  She averaged more than 30 points in 23 straight games.  She led her team to the Upper State finals in 1955.  She was the girl's basketball top scorer in York County for three years.

 
 

Gregory Barnette
Jefferson High School
Class of 1968

Gregory Barnette graduated in 1968 and was a standout basketball and football player at Jefferson High School.  In basketball, he led the Blue Devils to the 1966 State Championship.  Barnette was the MVP in the 1967 and 1968 Upper State Championship games.  In football, he led the Jefferson Blue Devils to a District 3 title.

Barnette went on the play basketball at Denmark Tech and Voorhees College, where he was the leading scorer and led them to championship games.

 

 

Harold Ramsey
Sharon High School
Class of 1954

Harold Ramsey graduated in 1954 and was Sharon's top pitcher, with a 7-3 record.  He led the Bulldogs to the Class C Playoffs and Upper State Finals.
